About Susie Hunt
The writer, baker, jam girl, travel addict & very amateur photographer That’s me. Some of you know me from the local Gold Coast Farmers Markets. Others perhaps from the inside of the bakers oven at Le Petite Pantry, Palm Beach. For those that don't, here goes ...
I sold my beloved Pantry and claimed a new life in September 2010. Since then, I’ve been re-training my body to sleep instead of bake at 4am and have spent loads of time with my two young daughters - even picking them up from school on time, sometimes even early. Yah!
The reason for my blogging is best explained in my first posting.
I continue to run a small wholesale business, Weka Weka Fine Farm Foods est. in 2004 that specialises in citrus cakes, loaves, slices and preserves, all produced by hand at the farm. At this time of year I’m often found in the orchard, robbing the best of the citrus and exotic fruits for desserts and jam - my gum-booted girls in tow.
Life before baking and over-eating was filled with travel and writing - the two BIG obsessions which make me, well... me. I worked at Qantas for many years and lived in Italy for several more. Shacked up in foodie heaven, otherwise known as La Cucina Italiana. I took a big bite of ‘la dolce vita’ - that sweet slice of Italian life that only the locals truly understand. I conducted tours in Greece for fun-loving Aussies and had some terrific jobs in the UK on the traditional Aussie rite of passage in London.
I almost lost the way home but never forget where I came from. So many fantastic recipes and journal jottings to share with you. But alas, the air was never sweeter (or clearer) and the cuddles never warmer than when I finally remembered to come home to the land down under.
I adore dinners that cook themselves, cakes that don't need any fancy icing and ingredients/flowers you pick in the backyard. Favourite tools are my hands, my daisy weeder, KitchenAid, citrus zester, my recollections and dog-eared vintage cookbooks.
I look forward to talking with you. I hope you'll join in the My Farm Kitchen community by sending us a comment or question attached to the recipe posting you enjoy the most. Cheers Susie x
